And I lied, this part here IS for the artists: (though I’m talking to the A.I. But often, that shiny, “fixed” price that looks good in the moment, ends up being a detriment to the voice acting industry as a whole, and more importantly, that specific artist who sold the rights to their voice in perpetuity, not fully knowing the gift that they signed away. Sometimes, newer or financially struggling voice artists willingly sign contracts giving companies their full and complete consent to “clone” their voices and redistribute, alter, and sell them without having to pay them residuals or anything beyond one fixed price. At this juncture, it can’t create on its own, it has to be trained, and this tech has to be trained on human voices. Maybe none of you care, but contrary to its name, A.I. or engineering it, improving it, seeking out artists and voice actors to help them feed the very machine that hopes to take their livelihoods. Things are more uncertain now than they already were when we chose this career, banked on ourselves and put all of our eggs into one creative basket, which brings me to my MAIN audience: People who are intrigued by this A.I. I don’t necessarily think we should despair, but I don’t really know, and that’s the problem. I know we’re all either stressing, or reciting the mantra that the “human” aspect can never be copied or replaced, whatever we need to tell ourselves to avoid falling into the pit of sci-fi dystopia-like nightmare despair.

voice tech advancements, and what the futures of some of our careers may now look like with the increased focus on improving and selling A.I. So, friends in the art world, but particularly and for the sake of this post, the world of voice acting: Artificial Intelligence is here, and many of us in the voice acting field are finding ourselves shaken by the recent speed of A.I.
